Step 1: Easy Enrolment

Call 6471 2002 to register with StemCord and our Client Relations Executive will meet up with you to provide you with more details. Upon registration (preferably before your 28th week of pregnancy), you will receive a Cord Blood Collection Box. You are required to inform your doctor that you have registered with StemCord.

Step 2: Call Us

Bring along the Collection Box to the hospital and call StemCord’s 24-hour hotline 6471 2002 upon delivery.

Step 3: Safe and Easy Collection

The collection of cord blood is a safe, painless and quick procedure and there is no risk to the mother and baby. After the delivering your baby, your doctor will clamp and cut the umbilical cord, and the cord blood can be collected and drawn into a sterile blood bag by gravity. The procedure is completed in less than five minutes. Two tubes of maternal blood will also be taken from the mother for tests. We will collect the cord blood unit and transport it safely back to our state-of-the art laboratory for processing and storage under stringent conditions.

Step 4: Stringent Standards of Processing

At our state-of-the-art laboratory, the collected cord blood is systematically frozen, minus one degree at a time. When it reaches an optimal temperature of -180°C, it is stored within liquid nitrogen tanks. Such care is taken to ensure the integrity and viability of the stem cells is not compromised. In addition, all cord blood units are separately handled and systematically processed, to eliminate the chances of a mix up.

Step 5: Testing

To ensure that the cord blood collected is safe and viable for transplant, StemCord subjects both maternal and cord blood to the following laboratory tests:

On Maternal Blood for Infectious Diseases:
1. HIV1/2
2. VDRL
3. HBsAG
4. HCV
5. CMV (Cytomegalovirus)
6. HTLV I/I (Human T-Lymphotropic Virus)

On Cord Blood:
1. Pre & Post Nucleated Cell Count
2. Cell Viability
3. ABO & Rh
4. CD34
5. Bacteria Culture
6. Fungal Culture

Step 6: Multiple Storage: Cryo Units and Separate Locations

At StemCord, cord blood is processed and stored in nitrogen storage tanks. StemCord is the only cord blood bank in Singapore that stores your baby’s cord blood in multiple cryo units, utilising the US FDA-approved, AABB and FACT compliant long-term stem cell storage system - cryobags. Storing cord blood in multiple units gives the flexibility to use only what is needed. This is because, once thawed, cord blood cannot be re-frozen. As a security measure, for greater peace of mind, StemCord stores splits up the cryo units and stores them at two separate locations.

Step 7: Retrieval

The stem cells can be thawed and ready for immediate use when your family needs it. So, call our 24-hour hotline 6471 2002 anytime, any day. We look forward to being of service to you.
